"Each textile holds a rich history, as it was once an old saree owned by the nine remarkable women who have been part of the Blue Justice and Blue Growth project by ULAB in collaboration with other international partners in Matarbari. A 1200 MW coal plant has been established by JICA & Bangladesh in Matarbari that lead to hundreds of families being displaced from their homes and livelihood sources.

These sarees have been lovingly upcycled into two-layered kantha embroidery, a traditional hand embroidery style in Bangladesh known for its use of dotted lines in geometric shapes. From this intricate craftsmanship, beautiful contemporary designs have emerged, ranging from jackets to shirts, trousers, and functional accessories.

Their boldness and determination shine through as they strive to make a positive impact, even after being displaced from their livelihoods and lands."
